What Is Road Freight?

Also known as road transport or haulage, road freight refers to the transport of cargo through a network of roadways. It is also one of the most reliable forms of logistics in the world; and the most commonly used mode globally. Road freight is also used in combination with air and sea freight so as to facilitate door to door delivery, if and when required.

LTL and FTL Road Freight

LTL, Less Than Truckload, freight is generally used by businesses requiring smaller size shipments that do not fill the entire truck. In LTL, you share truck space and the transport cost with other businesses. LTL is a therefor cost-effective and ideal for small and medium size businesses. However, delivery times are slightly longer when compared to FTL, as there can be multiple stops, and packing requirements on the way.

FTL, on the other hand, refers to Full Truck Load freight and used by businesses with a shipment size large enough to fill an entire truck. A full truck can be facilitated even when a full load is not met in order to work to specific time constraint or when carrying high risk or delicate goods. FTL is costlier than LTL.
